Notes:

Top Note:
This page is useful as not only does it provide information on what needs to be in our Portfolio for Study Skills, but at the bottom it also goes in to a little more depth of what is needed to write a 'Reflective Account'. This, I found very useful as I'd never wrote a reflective account. This information was something I often looked back on to guide me through my Portfolio.

Middle Note:
'ICT and Children' is the essay I have chosen to go in my Portfolio. Along with this essay, there also needs to be an essay plan. My essay plan was constructed using this page.

Bottom Note:
The information on this page holds an in depth look on what our essays need to include. There are guidelines and ideas of how to lay out the report and also bullet points of what subjects you could focus on. This page is extremely useful as it contains the ideas for the essay.

Newspaper Articles:

My second chosen newspaper article is titled:

'Boys, 9, Deal Drugs At School!'

Please click the link below to read the full story:

A Head Mistress of a school caught 4 pupils at the age of 9 dealing drugs to other children. Cannabis is the drug being sold at 50p!

Parents were called in immediately and the children have been suspended. The blame seems to have been shifted to the area. Comments from the parents included 'The area is going downhill by the day' and 'There's a new era of really horrible children whose parents don't have any control over them. Parents need to take more responsibility'.

My questions to this article are: how did the children get their hands on cannabis, how did they know what is was and what made them decide to sell? Have they seen these actions and are copying? Were they forced into it by a third person?

Please feel free to comment on what you think of this story!

Newspaper Articles:

I have yet to decide on which career path I want to take, however I'm 100% sure I want to work with children. Not just work with children, but help children.
As part of my portfolio I need to find newspaper articles which relate to children, post them on my blog and get a discussion going.
Instead of choosing any article, I have decided to use articles of which interest me, in hope to guide me to what I want to achieve through my career.
My first article:

'Man gets life for sick Tia murder'

This piece has been delivered very attractively to entice the reader. The title is big, bold and blunt. A picture of the young victim is positioned next to the title. Immediately giving a lot away to the reader, but without revealing any real information.
The full story can be viewed online by clicking this link:

To summarise the article, an uncle lured his niece to his home convincing her he needed her to babysit for him. When the 12year old got there, the uncle then lived out his fantasies of torture and rape on a child. He was sentenced for life.

Please spend a little time on reading this story. Feel free to comment about this case.

First Week!

What a week...considering I didnt think we started Uni till the 4th of Oct, it went quite well. At least I didnt have time to get nervous about the course, as I found out 20th of September at approx 8am when I phoned Emma asking about her facebook status which read something like 'Im so nervous for my first day of Uni tomoro'. You can imagine the panic that struck!

Despite this, my first day went quite well. Apart from the overwhelming information of what the course entails, everyone seemed nice and comforting to me no one else seemed to have a clue of what the hell was going on.

All in all, the first week went well. Our first task is to create this Blog as evidence to complete a portfolio for Study Skills.

I'll hold my hands up and admit I have no idea what Im doing on this blog, its a case of experimenting and seeing what works, so apologies if my blog looks dumb. Hopefully the information it'll hold is correct and I'll end up with some followers :)
